According to all the pundits, mobile phones will be the leading web surfing device by the year 2015.

Today a large percentage of your busy, on-the-go customers are accessing the web through their smart phones, such as iPhone, Blackberry, and Android. And we must not forget the growing tablet market which also has it’s own challenges. So, if you want these customers to have a good experience when they arrive at your website, you should consider making it mobile friendly.

Here are a few reasons to create a mobile friendly version of your web site:

Load Time

Your full website might take a very long time to load on someones phone or tablet on mobile networks. People could become very frustrated with waiting for your full website to load on their phone and decide that it isn’t worth their time. A mobile version of your site however will allow people to view your site quickly and efficiently.

Navigation

Mobile websites are specifically designed for handheld devices. We can create a mobile version of your website with an easy to use navigation structure allowing potential clients & customers to easily find your goods and services. There are many mobile specific features such as click-to-call and mapping functions that will improve your potential customers experience and improve your conversions.

Staying ahead of your competition

A mobile website can be accessed anywhere, on any device, and at any time. A mobile friendly website will capture the attention of your current and future clients, and keep your business ahead of the competition.

Mobile friendly sites require priority

At jib, our website is designed to collapse based on screen resolution using javascript. This enables us to have a slightly different experience for each user while still maintaining the integrity of our branding. It allows us to decide what features are important for the user based on the real estate of their screen. This speeds up load times and enables us to make certain content a priority.

Have you ever wondered why some search results include a photo of the author along with the SERP result? It’s very simple actually. Allow me to explain.

Google has gone to great lengths to improve the user search and results experience, as well as develop their own social media property in Google+. The Google Authorship (rel=”author”) tag combines the best of search and social by delivering authenticated content search results. This is great news for authors and content marketers, as adding a little bit of script to your blog can accomplish two things; inform Google that your original content is actually yours, and secondly, improve your click through rate by attracting the user to your profile picture which is leveraged from your Google+ profile.

Above is an example of a SERP result for one of my posts. Which one would you click on? Studies have shown that eye gaze is an effective cue for directing attention in adults. The article featured above me was posted around the same time. Even though my post appears below this one, it is more likely to receive a click as it stands out and has a human face. Compelling copy also helps but it is no longer the dominant feature of the search result. So make sure you use a compelling picture for your profile.

The good news is, if you have a WordPress blog you can easily add your Google+ credentials with a plugin called Google Authorship Widget and your articles will begin indexing along with your picture in about 4-5 weeks. If you don’t have WordPress, you can simply add rel=”author” with a link to your Google profile on your blog in your header file.

Here’s a video explaining the whole process:

Unless you’re living under a rock, you’ve probably heard of QR codes and have noticed their proliferation in advertising in the last 18 months. QR codes are a great marketing tool when used properly. They can provide timely information at all steps of the sales cycle and can be very useful. BUT we don’t recommend them to our clients, unless there is a specific function beyond visiting the home page of their web site.

If you are planning to use a QR code, make sure you are adding value to the intended users experience. Send them somewhere useful, give them a coupon, provide directions, help them buy your product, inform them on how to use your product through video or audio. Don’t just send them to your website. For great examples of QR code use, take a look at these 5 genius examples of QR codes in marketing.
